Hoa – Hands On First Impressions
Hoa has a simple premise and one we’ve seen before in countless other platformers but therein lies it’s charm.

Upon initial inspection, one might interpret this game as merely another platformer but that’s where you’re wrong. Although Hoa is indeed a platformer, it leans heavily on being able to tell the story as a result of that.

HokutoPain on Hoa
As you climb through the trees or explore deep dark caverns, there is always something beautiful to look at or listen to. The soundtrack effortlessly guides you through your journey with sweeping strings and lonesome piano – and it works REALLY well.
I would be lying if I said that I didn’t compare this game to a Studio Ghibli movie or two, because it’s obvious that those animations are a heavy influence.
“Hoa is a beautiful puzzle-platforming game that features breathtaking hand-painted art, lovely music, and a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. Experience the magic of nature and imagination as you play the main character, Hoa, on her journey through breathtaking environments back to where it all began.”
Breathtaking hand-painted art
Step into a painting that lives – explore a vast world of meticulously crafted sceneries of stunning hand-painted art.

Outstanding original soundtrack
Captivatingly story-telling and emotionally-charged, Hoa’s exceptional score, originally composed and live-recorded, brings its world to life with a touch of nostalgia.
Lovely creatures
Keep an eye out for delightful magical creatures along the way. Most of them want to be friends, some might even tell you a little story or two. Cuteness guaranteed.

What developer Skrollcat Studio have managed to produce here is nothing short of spectacular. And in a time of constant delays, buggy launch titles and unfinished works – it’s refreshing to get a well performing, fully rounded, complete tale that warms both the heart and the mind.

I played the game on Steam, and although it has a serious lack of control in terms of game options/settings – it ran natively at 4K at well over 100 fps (playing on an RTX 3080).
Hoa is available to purchase on all major consoles, PC and more… right now. Don’t miss out!
