The recent popular trend of ‘hate raids’ have been sweeping a plethora of streamers on Twitch and it appears as though, these streamers have had enough.

‘Hate Raids’ is the process of bombing a streamers chat with sexist, racist, abusive and transphobic messages – and although it isn’t a new trend, there has been an incredible increase of attacks recently.

Trending on Twitter #ADayOffTwitch, which is from the #TwitchDoBetter movement – is a stance for all streamers to remain off Twitch for entire day (1st September, 2021), in order to have their opinions on the issue be heard by Twitch.

Streamer RekitRaven created the #TwitchDoBetter hashtag to urge the Amazon-owned streaming platform to deploy better tools to stem the tide of harassment.

It’s not the first time Twitch have angered streamers, most recently the increase in DMCA or copyright strikes to streamed content was a huge issue. Twitch’s lack of tools, unclear policy and slow reaction speeds meant many streamers were heavily affected by the ensuing strikes – with Twitch acting more like a mail man than a mediator of the process.

We have yet to see Twitch’s response to the movement.

What do you think of the movement? Are you a streamer? Are you in support of this or do you think other means are needed to help Twitch ‘do better’? Let us know in the comments below.
